1. What is a group? A group is simply a place where you can interact freely with people of similar interests, through forums, e-mail, etc... Groups can be either public or private, and they are all categorized. |
2. What is a public group? A public group is a group that can be read and browsed by anyone on the internet. This isn't bad, though! If you want people to see what your group is like, in order to expand your group, this is the perfect setting. Please note! Just because a group is public, doesn't mean that everyone can join. You can set your group so that you have to request to join if you wish. |
3. What is a private group? A private group is a group that cannot be viewed or joined by anyone except members. They are automatically by request only for joining, regardless of how you set it. |
4. How do I join a group? You can browse through our groups on the Join a Group page, or the List of Groups page to find a group that you like. Each group decides whether new people can join freely or whether they have to request to join. This is all done on a group by group basis. |
5. Where do I see the people who have requested to join? If you're the owner of a group, login, and go to your groups homepage. Look on the sidebar for the "Requests" button. If "Requests" is red, then you have requests to join, and you can click the Requests button to admit them into the group, or to deny their requests. If the "Requests" button is not red, you have no new requests. Only owners of groups may view the requests page. |
6. Where can I invite people to my group? If you're the owner of your group, click on the "Invitations" button on the sidebar. The instructions for e-mailing members of the Student Center Network and e-mailing non-members are listed there. |
7. What is an "admin"? An admin is someone in your group who has adminstration power. This should be a member who is active in the group, and who you know and trust. An admin can do the following: 1)Delete posts in the forum, 2)Delete bookmarks, 3)Delete calendar entries, and 4)Delete pictures. You should only have admins if your group is large and you as the owner cannot handle all the administration yourself. Only owners can set admins. |
8. I want my group to be public and open to all, but I'm afraid of people who will ruin the group. Don't worry about that! If you see that a member is ruining your group by posting too much, posting offensive entries, etc... you can blacklist the member. If you're the owner, click the Blacklist button on the sidebar, and enter the users name. This will delete everything that user has done in the group, remove him/her from the group, and prevent him/her from joining again. It's that easy! |
9. I want to delete my group. For safety precautions, no one except Student Center Administrations can delete a group. If you want to delete your group, and you're the owner, you can request to delete your group by e-mailing studcent@i-2000.com. |
10. I want to delete a member from my group. Go to the Member Admin page on your sidebar. You can do this from here. |
11. Is there a limit to how many members can be in a group? Nope! Just make sure you're prepared to have a large group if you want one. Remember, if you have thousands of members in your group, you will probably not know most of them, and you will have to have several administrators to make sure your group stays in shape. |
12. Where did my group go?!?!? If you can't find your group, it was probably deleted due to inactivity. If a group is inactive for a month or more, it gets deleted at midnight on the 30th day of inactivity. We need to do this so groups can run efficiently! |
